Monday Night Creative Music Series: Iriamu & Nathan Chamberlain (NY)

October 20 @ 7:30 pm10:30 pm
$20

Iriamu is the multi-disciplined art project of Will Hamilton. In his music, Iriamu uses found sounds, everyday noises, synths, percussion, guitars, and the bass. He melds the “noises” creating sonic soundscapes to express emotions, and tell his story. A modern day Griot. Iriamu is the creator of the community driven, socio-political party, the Freak Flag Freedom Party. He is also a partner in the instrumental music festival, NoWordsATL.

NATHAN CHAMBERLAIN (he/him) is a Chicanx/Indigenous guitarist, curator, and composer who is based out of Brooklyn, NY. Chamberlain’s work actively engages the decolonization of jazz and improvised music, joining a tradition rooted in resistance towards white supremacy. Ken Waxman of jazzword.com has described Chamberlain’s playing as a “break through the commonplace for a memorable experience.”

As a guitarist, Chamberlain’s improvised language embraces the organic facets of the guitar, such as harmonics in just intonation, as well as electronic augmentation, including the use of pedals and digital processing. He has performed with William Parker, Amirtha Kidambi, Paul Sakai, Leni Kreienberg, Kwami Winfield, and Selendis Sebastian Alexander Johnson.

MNCM is committed to being an open and welcoming space for Atlanta’s creative musicians and curious audiences. Our weekly programming intends to support our city’s diverse musical communities, and build momentum for improvised, experimental, avant garde jazz, contemporary classical, electronic, and other musical practices in the Southeast by presenting local, regional, and international touring artists.
